Doily Pomanders

{making}

I've been working this week mostly on getting stuff ready for my etsy store I'm planning to open soon, but I did also work on another project or two for some of the parties I have going on this spring.  One of those projects was this doily pomander.  So here's a quick post to show you how I did it.....

All you'll need to make these is 20 doilies (I used 4" size for this size ball... of course bigger doilies make bigger balls), a pen, and a glue stick
Step one:
cut a piece of cardboard into an equilateral triangle (all side the same length and the corners the same angle)... or at least close to it I don't think mine was quite perfect.... make sure the 3 corners of the triangle touch the edges of the doily.  lightly trace it onto the BACK of the doily.

Step Two:
fold the doily along the lines, folding so that the flap folds towards the FRONT side of the doily, (in the second picture the doily is sitting with the front side of the doily facing up)

 Step Three:

glue 5 of the doilies together with the triangle in the centers all pointing the same direction to make a domed circle.  Repeat with another 5 doilies.  These will be the top and bottom of your pomander.

Step four:
glue the remaining 10 doilies together alternating the direction of the center triangle to make a straight strip (this is where it can get a little confusing for a second trying to make sure you are actually making it a straight strip and not another circle, so make sure you take a look at it after you glue the first two or three together... I've made 4 of these so far and I still have to stop and think about how this part goes together lol). Glue the ends of the strip together to make a ring (sorry forgot to get a picture of this). This will be the center of the pomander. Then glue the top and bottom that you already made to the center ring.

 And voila! you're done!

I am getting ready to go out to do some shopping with a friend today and we're planning on hitting the craft stores, so I will probably have plenty more projects to get me through the weekend (although I really do have a lot of housework to get done that kind of got neglected this week...... lol)

oh and P.S. sorry about the quality of some of the pictures for this project... I was trying to take them by myself while working on it and not take a ton of extra time lol

Happy Valentine's Day!

{doing}

Happy Valentine's Day!!

As you may remember I had mentioned previously, my husband and I had planned to go to Paris this weekend to celebrate Valentine's Day..... Paris, Virginia that is..... also to kick off our "around the world in Virginia" road trips. However since we got almost a foot of snow yesterday and might possibly be getting some more tomorrow, we won't be doing that after all (although I'm hoping we can do it next weekend). But don't worry... we still celebrated Valentine's Day.  In fact my hubster gave me one of the best Valentine's day presents ever! ...... We made an almost life-sized snow TARDIS! (if you don't know what that is shame on you  read this). Now you may be thinking That was your Valentine's Day present?! But seriously this was the perfect present for me because I love Doctor Who, I love the snow, and I love when we do projects and work on things together, which we got to do.  And seriously this is the coolest snow thing I have ever been involved in building (our snowmen when I was a kid were always pretty lame lol)
Getting started...

first couple scoops in place...

The shape starting to "take shape" {<-- hehe}

getting a little taller...

and taller....

almost there!...

finishing off the top...

the shape done!...

and completely finished with the details carved and the sign on it...

another side of the TARDIS...

and another...

all ready to become the next Companion

our dog trying to figure out what this big thing in her yard is...

close up of the sign.... I printed it out and then put it in a plastic page protector and taped the top closed so it won't get all wet...

I was trying to get a shot where you can actually see the little door knob I made of snow and put on the door, but you can't really see it too well...

just a quick update......

{living}

Just a quick update to say I'm not about to disappear for a couple months again. lol.  There just really hasn't been much the past couple weeks worth posting.  January and February are kinda of slow times usually for us around here, especially when it comes to doing a lot of crafts and project of that type. (work tends to slow down a bit for my husband this time of year and the budget gets a bit tighter so I try not to spend too much on crafts and such).  Having said that there are usually at least a couple projects around the house that I try to get done over the winter (which I do have this year but haven't quite gotten to yet) and I do a lot of planning for stuff for the spring (Easter, My Birthday, last year I had a bridal shower I was doing and this year a baby shower.....) and I have been doing a lot of that the past few weeks, so eventually the fruits of all that planning will end up on here :). I'm really excited about the plans for all the events this spring (okay I think I pretty much get excited about everything if you haven't figured that out by now haha.....).

    Also........ I'm thinking about starting an Etsy shop, it would be mostly party decorations and maybe some paper goods, such as invitations and such, so I'm working on figuring out what I want to put on there and pricing and stuff like that.... when that's all up and running I'll put a link on here.

    Sooooo.... I know not the most exciting of updates, oooo.... I did make some yummy food for the Super Bowl Sunday... and even a little "snack stadium" so here's a picture of that at least. ;) (it's not as big or elaborate as I had wanted to do but I was running out of time and energy that day as I had unexpectedly ended up cleaning my parents fridge - long story - )
Oh and don't count the lines on the "field".... yes I know there are too many, I wasn't really counting as I piped them and got a little carried away haha.... and don't worry we had a lot more wings and pizza rolls than this, as well as some more "broccamole" and a couple other dips
